We are definitely planning to expand to other platforms, including: Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile, but I don't have a time frame for you.
We are currently working to improve the existing system and once we have it running smoothly, we will turn our attention to further development.
Thanks for the encouraging question.

I'd be interested in participating but my family, extended family, and most of my friends use the Android OS. If you need code writers to partner with, I could refer you to some people that could help develop an app for android.

Thanks Anthony. We have it being developed right now. Our bigger issue is trying to get more jobs in the system so we can feed all the new mouths that will come with launching on Android. We took a lot of heat from iPhone users early on for not having enough work, and it's honestly still a bit of a challenge.
I hope to be in a position to launch on Android soon.- view 1 more comment

In markets where GigWalk is not available, is it possible for Field Agent to aquire jobs similar to what GigWalk offers (i.e.taking pictures of mall stores with the Microsoft Photosynth App)? Or are those jobs only exclusive to GigWalk?
-
-
Trust me. You do not want to do those photosynth gigs lol I've done almost 200 and I'm sick of them. There's a reason there's so many of them. They are exclusive to gigwalk, Microsoft have pumped a lot of money into gigwalk performing their task and it doesn't look like they are in any position to switch. Without microsft gigwalk wouldn't be nearly as big as it is. They are at the mercy of Microsoft. I will cry if I see a photosynth Job on field agent. They are terrible.

Can't wait until I can download this on my HTC! I helped a friend do a job earlier today, I was the subject of the picture. Really hope to do this myself on my HTC soon :)

If an android version is released before there is more jobs available, then I will be ending my field agent days. Its already hard enough to get jobs.
May sound selfish, but in all reality, the amount of jobs being split if android comes on board will pretty much ruin this until there are more jobs from clients available. It already feels like fighting for scraps as it is. -

Sorry, but I just have to say "stop the whining!" If FA's had to invest money or other resources or if a significant time investment was required prior to earning from FA, then I'd understand the complaining. But we didn't! All we did was download an app, spend under 30 minutes becoming familiar with it, and at OUR convenience and as often as WE like, check to see if there are any new jobs. If that's too much of an "investment" or commitment for any one in exchange for the possibility of earning a couple of extra bucks, then please, be my guest and move along. For a change there's a simple LEGITIMATE opportunity for people to actually earn some extra cash. Pretty decent cash too considering it's not rocket science and the time and effort required to complete the work is extremely minimal. When you top that with the fact that FA pays it's agents not just every time they request it, but they pay immediately and with no minimum balance required, it really doesn't get better then that. It may not be for everyone, but that's more than enough for me to stay interested. This is by no means a job and therefore there is no guarantee of income. In the new reality of today's economy, even a "job" is no longer the guarantee of income as it once was. The FA opportunity and the earning potential offered to its agents should be seen as of a bonus rather than an obligation that is owed to us. I'll take a 3 minute photo opp with a 5 minute questionnaire for $5.00 any day over a boring repetitive 30 minute online survey that pays me a buck assuming I even qualify or some tedious data entry task that's paying worse than slave labor rates any day. Sorry, I've avoided responding to this for too long. While John may be too polite and professional to truly address this attitude head on, I'm obviously not.

Yeah, but remember that if there are not enough jobs to go around, people will download the app, notice there are not many jobs, DELETE the app! Simple as that.. they will think its a junk app and get rid of it. Maybe if you live in a big city with plenty of jobs to go around then its no big deal.
If I have to keep checking my phone every two hours to check for jobs and get maybe one a week- then that is not worth it to me. Like I said, I don't know where you live, but maybe if you live in a big city with plenty to go around and MAKE it worth someones TIME, then its okay. I'm pretty sure there have got to be people in the same boat as me that feel the same way.
I think for good mass adoption- you need enough jobs to go around to keep peoples interest. Time IS money, If there are a few jobs here and there, then that is great and I will likely do them, but as I said before- if I have to look at my phone over and over to fight over maybe one $4-7 job every other week- then Its not worth it. And I believe that's exactly what would happen if android was on the scene (too early), and I believe the Field Agent creators understand this as well.
Also notice that I said "too early". I believe there will be a time for the android to come on scene, but not until there is more steam behind Field Agent and there are more jobs available. I honestly think opening up to android to early would hurt the efforts more than help. If everyone is still scraping for jobs now- how does opening up to android help? -
-
That's funny! Scraping for jobs! In my city I am am constantly scraping for jobs on FA, but in the cities to the north and south of me the jobs sit on FA and no one picks them up. I wish the other people who scrap with me for jobs would move north or south of me and get those jobs instead. Happy scraping to all of my fellow FA people.

As a field agent Rep that has done quite a few jobs I can tell you I do miss running my assignments. It can be a lot of fun and my kids really loved doing it with me (and splitting the fee of course).
I love the android OS and I would never go back at this point. I will say however the SINGULAR app I miss from my iPhone is Field Agent. I can't wait to see it in the android market. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! -
-
Thanks, Joel! As our client numbers continue to expand, we hope to get to a point sometime in the future where we can provide jobs to keep both the iPhone and Android users happy. Until then, we have to stay loyal to the iPhone users in providing them jobs. Hopefully sooner than later though!
-
-
Yes, please do not open to other platforms, as mentioned there are way too few jobs and way more Agents! Diluting the value by opening up to Android, RIMM, WP7, etc... will only make the wider audience of Agents potentially frustrated at not being able to get a job! Thanks for keeping it on the iPhone and only the iPhone, there are plenty of us to help your business!
-
-
Times are hard for everyone. Trying to hoard an app for only iPhone users is plain selfish. We all need as much help as possible in this economy. I own an EVO and can't wait to be able to do jobs here. So bring it on and share the wealth. The early gets the worm and I plan on getting up early to get the jobs done. Thanks.
-
Carmen, it's not about being selfish and trying to play favorites. We developed the app for the iPhone before Android had taken off. We have enough (too many) Agents on the iPhone platform compared to the number of jobs we have available. If we launch on Android, jobs will be that much harder to find for our current Agents. In a worst case scenario, we could lose our current Agents and the new Android Agents because there aren't enough jobs to keep them interested and then there would be no one to do jobs.
Therefore, this delay is to ensure the stability of our business and create value for our current Clients and Agents. We will launch on Android, but not until the right time for our business. Once we do, I look forward to your joining us. -

From a strict business perspective- I think expanding way too early would be the dumbest thing you could do. More especially... Why?? If you have more than enough agents right now, why waste resources implementing onto another platform?? If someone can elaborate, why would it be beneficial for this particular company to open up the floodgates of more agents before there is adequate work to go around, I would be interested in knowing?? I mean seriously put yourself in the position of understanding this from the "company's" perspective... Ohh and no "ethical", "fairness" or "tuff economic times" reasons-- keep the responses strictly business related!

You are echoing my concerns, however, I will admit that there is a clear business case for expanding to Android. Unfortunately, I am not comfortable discussing it on a forum open to our competitors, who have already done their best to knock us off feature for feature. That said, I still don't believe it's the right time to make the move, but it is inevitable.

i think you are just doing it for the iphones so people have to buy a iphone, you are in league with apple im sure and that is why you truly don't want to come out with any other operating systems.

I applaud your decision to develop the app on other platforms. Everybody should be able to see that it makes good business sense to open it up to as many people as possible, so that each job will have that many more applicants. I use Field Agent as pocket money income, so I believe that anybody using it for more than that is just setting themselves up for disappointment later. I have an iPhone now, but, who knows, maybe later I will switch to Android. I would hope that at that time, I will be able to download Field Agent for Android and continue earning more pocket money! Keep up the good work.

Android phones are outselling iPhones here in the UK.
I'd have thought there was a strong business case for beating your competitors to that market share.
I didn't know there were any competitors.
Be assured I'm going to go look for them now. :)-
Good luck. Let me know if you find any in the UK.

I've looked for a similar service on the android platform and there is nothing that even comes close to FA.

Thank you for information me. I wait for my android APP. :) Let me know when it will come. :)

I'm on android and close to an upgrade. I would consider an iphone if this app is far off from being offered on android. Do you have a rough time scale it will be released?

Well, actually i'm a mystery shopper and know many more. One such shopper erned £100 from the billboard project. If this is a common occurrence (I do not know as only recently have other shoppers downloaded this app) than it would make good financial sense to purchase the phone. But clearly this is very much based on the amount of work and frequency which I have asked about but obviously not on this board.
I have had some experince of the iphone and from what i can tell there is little difference apart from the 'brand'. But thats for a iphone v's android argument :-) -
-
I don't know what the stats are for other shoppers, but I have been using this app almost since it's inception, and I haven't made near that much. I know of some people who will drive 30+ miles each way to expand their earnings, but in reality they spend more than that in fuel. Just don't get this app thinking it will be a big second income. It's pocket money! I only do jobs if they are close, and I make some pocket money. Some months I make nothing...

Time scales will not be released. Companies In general don't even know. Production and development have many variables and one wrong move could delay it's launch by months. So rather than breaking promises about a release it is in everyone's best interest that there be no projected dates of Its release. We just need to be patient everyone.

Looks like the last Official Response was about a year ago. Any updates on the progress of an Android app? I switched to from iphone to android a few months ago and this app has been sorely missed. Here's hoping it arrives sooner rather than later.

Andy, keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates. Thee are too many topics on here to keep all up to date.
We expect to launch on Android very soon. -
-
Well it was fun while it lasted! I have had a complete slump in available jobs lately (only one this last month for $2.50). With android coming soon, I am not going to spend a bunch of time checking for jobs that will likely not be available when it's carried to android. I always looked at this as pocket change, but I worry it's now not even going to be worth the effort.
-
-
Thanks for the update. I have 'Liked' the Facebook page for a while and keep hoping to see the good news about Android there. I know many are concerned about the available jobs being watered down, but I've always had good experience finding jobs and I think there is still so much untapped potential in the site/app. That being said, I'm hoping it's live before Christmas. The extra pocket money would sure help with presents. Thanks for the positive experience in the past and hopefully into the future.

I recently changed phones from the iPhone to an Android phone. My wife is excited, as she now is using my old iPhone and the Field Agent App. I'd like to be able to also use the app and accept jobs using my new Android phone. I keep seeing items referring to an invite basis for the app and would like to know what the process is to get an invite and start using the app again, this time on my Droid phone.
